Scarlett Loves little chairs!

When I got pregnant, hubby and I were both in agreement that we would not find out the sex of the baby, it was going to be the best surprise of all (plus if I was going to go through that pain then I wanted a surprise at the end of it! lol).  I think the fact of not knowing caught everyones imagination at work and I would daily have people coming up to me and saying "I think its a ...". The majority thought it was going to be a boy but I thought I would know better with this 'maternal instinct' I was supposed to develop during pregnancy, lots of friend told me they "just knew" what they were having. Well I got it into my mind that I was having a girl, I just 'felt' like it was a girl, and because I piled on the pounds during pregnancy I was round everywhere not just the bump so no one could go on bump position - haha.

So when I went to my local recycling centre to drop of the recycling I'd accumulated for 2 weeks, I thought I'd have a peak into the "sales area" (the metal shack that the fellas down there put the items thrown away that they know they can get a bob or two for to pay for their lunches!). It really amazes me the things people throw away - perfectly useable items. On this particular day I saw this lovely little childrens chair - too cute for words and I knew I could do it up for bubbas nursery. They only wanted £1 for it so in my mind with the thoughts of a little girl I transformed it to this:

I sanded and painted the wood white and then added the dove decoupage motiff (which I had stored away a few months earlier looking for a project to use it on).

And ta-da I had a cute shabby chic nursery chair. So I'm sure you know what the outcome was.... I had a little boy :o) So much for my pregnancy instincts!  But I adore little chairs so this one hasn't gone to waste and has its own little corner in my home.  I'm now on the look out for another child's chair for a bargain price that I can transform into a pirate theme to fit my sons nursery.

I adore the chair sooo much! one other thing that i wanted to try next is how to decoupage, i just had this in my head all those floral decoupage in furnitures but that's for next time ....but i do love the bird with flower and the color is so vintage! great buy for £1 and well if im pregnant someday, i'll do the same thing as you did, let it be a surprise! anyways, I did the "dream sign" also inspired by some bloggers out there and so feel free to make yours! Have a great day!

  4. Hi Scarlett, love the chair, v cute. I, too, had the wwong pregnancy instinct. I bought a vintage Rupert the Bear in an aeroplane cos I thought I was having a boy. Wrong! Never mind, the Rupert the Bear toy is very sweet even though my daughter has never had any interest in it!

  6. I think it was good that you didn't want to know girl/boy.If you know before it's a bit like opening a present before your birthday,it spoils the surprise! That chair is so lovely and so is the story that goes with it. :0)

This chair is simply adorable! I'm with you on the baby instincts, but hey, I was right 2 of the 3 times so that's gotta count for something right? ;)

  10. Ahhh, what a lovely job you did on the chair. I waited to find out the sex of one of my babies. It was exciting.
I am sure you'll come across another one better suited to refinish for a boy!
