What are you reading?

I love books, in my pre driving days when I had to take the bus to work I used to get through books so quickly that I always made sure I had a ready supply at home, this is where the boot sales and the charity shops came in handy in feeding my book addiction.  I couldn't and still cant justify spending £9.99 on a book I can get for 20p at a boot sale or £1 in the charity shop.  However now on maternity leave and also being able to drive my reading to book buying ratio is out of sorts and I now have a room full of my bulk buy books which I am now trying to get through.  So I'm reading and donating and then replacing with vintage books which are lovely to look at on the shelf :o)

This week's book is:
I know I'm well behind the 'must read' book fashion - this one I do believe was one of Richard and Judy's book club choices so its got to be good *wink*

What are you reading at the mo?

  1. I'm currently reading:
Hellhound on His Trail:by Hampton Sides
Great book about the murder of Martin Luther King and the manhunt that lasted for 65 days for James Earl Ray.

    So worth it!

  2. Well as we've already discussed you know I'm a big fan of reading as I travel by train to and from work but rely on the library as I too cannot bare spending money on books!

I started a new book on the train today but couldn't get into it so tomorrow you'll see what my next choice was.

  3. I just don't get time to read proper books anymore - except when we go away on holiday!!
So I am reading...educational books related to 0-19 year olds (for my diploma) and every evening I go to bed to read house magazines and mags like Prima and Essentials - sometimes I manage it and other times I fall asleep whilst getting warm!! lol!

  4. I'm a speed reader and have literally hundreds littering the place despite us getting a kindle which was supposed to cut down on the number of paperbacks we buy from charity shops. Like you, I love novels but would really only like really nice editions and glossy craft/home/fashion type books on display. I'm reading 'Ghostwritten' by David Mitchell at the moment (Cloud Atlas bloke) and am really enjoying it. Also reading 'The Happy Hooker' (the crochet one, not the prostitute memoirs!)

Have you been on www.Readitswapit.co.uk? You can list the books you've finished with and swap with other members for ones you want. x

  5. I read the" Bookseller of Kabul" a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I have had a nightmare with books lately though really struggling to find a good one. So I borrowed a couple of Sophie Kinsella books from a friend as they are so easy and I,m guarenteed to get to the end. Her novels can be a bit cheesy and annoying but I love reading and the frustration of not having a good read got the better of me.

You can't go wrong with a Richard and Judy recommendation.

  7. Yes, that is the one and only thing I miss about getting the bus to work since I passed my test, takes me an age to get through a book these days. I enjoyed that one a few years back, hope you do too. I'm reading Then We Came To The End by Joshua Ferris at the mo, and on that note I think I'll get into bed with it :)

  9. Hi Scarlett, yep read that one. It's a good'un. Reading Zoe Heller's "The Believers" about an eccentric Jewish family in New York, where, among other things, the wife has just discovered that her husband of years and years has been having an affair with someone and has fathered a child. Oh yes! Night night!

  12. I'nm reading Chanel by Edmonde Charles-Roux. I love the way that its written and apparently the film 'Coco Before Chanel' with Audrey Tatou was based on it. I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm sure that it'll be great as anything with Tatou in it is alwayas a winner.

  16. I'm trying to get through the mountain of books under the bed. I decided to read the ones that had been there the longest first, having worked through a few of them I now know why they kept ending up at the bottom of the pile! YAWN. So i then thought I'd better read the ones that had been leant to me by other people. To that end I am currently reading The Queen's Fool by Phillipa Gregory and enjoying it.

  17. I miss traveling to work as well. I now live only 5 minutes walk away so don't read nearly as much. At the moment I'm reading the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. x

  18. It’s no secret I love books too. The older the better, I can’t remember the last time I purchased a book brand new. Though I have a pile ready to topple over to read! xxx
