Fly My Pretties

Half price window day at the expensive charity shop today!  Being a huge fan and collector of the vintage powder compact I've had my eye on 2 compacts in this window but they were bit above my usual budget so I've left them on several occasions but today was the day to swoop in and bag those pretties and bonus being there was another one added :o)

So let me introduce you to the new additions:

Mother of Pearl Melissa compact (look how clean and tidy it is inside with original paper liner! eeee!) This one has been in the window for a few weeks now and was marked at £10 - too rich for me but hey £5 on half price day will do me fine thanks!

This was the new one in the window - again its never been used and has original powder sponge and it was only £1.25! More inner squealing.

And the final pretty, the elderly lady of the group:

Has the previous powder in it (got to love that powder smell) and has been well loved but its still a beautiful compact - especially for £2.50 :o)

These make me happy:

Just a quick post for me today :o)

  3. I can almost smell them. I imagine a dainty white-gloves hand taking them out of a good quality leather handbag. What happened to us ladies eh? When did we become so masculine...

  10. I own my nan's from when she passed away a while ago, its very similar to the gold coloured one. It still has her powder in and I carry it in my own make-up bag at all times but would never use it. It's to special to use and the smell reminds me of her.

  15. Love love love the mother of pearl one especially, I would have been very tempted even at full price as it's so beautiful. They're all pretty though, I can't pass them up either. (Still never have one in my handbag when I need one though!)

  22. Scarlett they are beautiful. I especially love the MOP one! My first job 30+ years ago was behind the counter of the chemist shop. I remember us having old Stratton compacts in a cabinet that had been there for a gazillion years. We thought they were terribly old fashioned and only fit for grannies! Oh how I wish I had then the appreciation for these fine old beauties that I do now!

  25. These are so pretty - will you be able to put your own powder in one? I remember reading that Duchess of Windsor had rooms painted exact shade of her face powder to help her complexion glow. Its a must, I think! :)
