Soggy Boot

It was a soggy boot sale on Sunday. I blame my mother for being the jinx, she asked to tag along on my boot sale trip and I was more than happy to have the company, although I did find it harder to ear-wig the conversations around me with my mum chatting away.  It also meant that I really had to look at those stalls I see week in and week out that I rush past....still nothing to be had on the them.  We were the second row in when the heavens opened.  Out came the tarpaulin to cover stalls and clothes were hastily thrown in the back of cars but I still picked up a couple of bits:

1950s Janet and John books and a 'What to look for in summer' ladybird book - £1 for the lot.

Two scarves, black and pink is a trusty M&S one (complete with tags) the blue and white one is a vintage Jacqmar - £1.

Pretty Polly Stockings - 25p. The lady who sold me these was in her 80s and was possibly the funniest most lovable bootsaler ever. She informed me that she had be "inundated" with buyers asking her is she was selling her suspender belts to go with the stockings.  She told me in all seriousness that she had never thought to have bought her suspender belts but that she was going to go home and have a sort out and bring a good selection of them to the boot sale next week. I personally and am very much looking forward to seeing her suspenders on display next week ;o)

 Vintage (possibly 50s) summer dress - £1

Cute little vintage birthday card - 25p.

And finally, its this weeks short but sweet (blame the rain)....

Witnessed at a Boot Sale

Pink fully quilted toilet seat in "nearly new condition" for £3.  (How can this possibly be cleaned!?!)

A lady asking the price on a brown maxi skirt, only to throw it down in horror when the seller asked £15 for it.

A seller explaining the whole plot and outcome of a novel to the lady who had just bought it.

Hope you have all had a lovely Monday

Scarlett x

  2. That vintage summery dress is so pretty! I got a kick out of the novel story too. I have that same problem all the time! When I tell someone that I haven't seen a particular movie yet, but want to - they proceed to tell me how it ends!

  13. I can identify with the horrified lady who threw the skirt down. That's the sort of thing I would do - it's an instinctive reaction to the sheer disbelief of the price.

Getting tired of people treating a boot sale like an antiques fair and hoiking the prices up ridiculously high - either sell your junk at a decent price to get rid of it (the point of a boot sale, no?) - or go on eBay - or actually go to a proper antiques fair if you think it's worth that much.

Ok climbing off my soap box now. :)

Lovely books you got there - I am so into vintage books at the moment.

  14. Ahhh - we had Here We Go at home when I was small. My Dad taught me to read before I started school and he'd taught my elder sisters too with these books. Poor man - when he came through the door at night I'd be badgering him to hear me read! Takes me back! xxx
