I used to avoid going to 'Antique and Collectors' fairs as with a bit of boot sale mentality I always thought these fairs would be way over my budget and I would lust after items which would hurt my purse. Since blogging my eyes have been opened to the world of 'The Vintage Fair'. Although I have never found one near me i did find a week day collectable fair a couple of weeks ago which I decided to check out.
I came home with a bag of goodies! So here is some of my buys:
Vintage Jacob's biscuit tin - £2. Ideal for storing some crafty supplies :o)
I loved the design on this vintage box and was surprised when I looked inside...
...to find the original unused stationary set :o) I do love a good set of writing paper. This cost a whopping £3 ;o)
I spied a box on the end of one stall, not very exciting from the outside:
but being a nosey mare I had to have a peak inside:
Only a 1940's Icilma face powder and face cream gift set! In pristine condition. I really cant believe this was never used! The inside of the lid has this fabulous winter scene illustration:
I'm a sucker for vintage cosmetics and packaging so this was a dream find and for £3 what a bargain!
Now if you're not familiar with Icilma then this will explain the magic:

Now for a bit of pretty pink. I saw this pink metal case on the stall furthest from the door and homed in on it straight away:
Not overly exciting from the outside but its whats inside that counts:
Only a 1930s vanity case with original enamel lid bottles and a packet of spare stoppers! Its is also in amazing condition and looks it was not used either. I'm also loving the little side compartments:
I adore this little case and would have paid more than the £10 the stall holder asked for it. She did later let slip that she had it priced at £30 on her previous sale but as this one was slow she let me have it cheap - ta very much :o)
So I have been converted and will definitely be visiting an antique/collectors fair if there is another one in my area.
Ta ta for now
Scarlett x
Ooh nice finds. I'm a sucker for these and will go along to anything vintage/antique related, even just for 'research' purposes! Seems like the prices were really pretty reasonable anyway. Love that old make-up advert, I'm always fully made up to cook the dinnner!
ReplyDeleteThose are all such lovely things.
ReplyDeleteI've also been wary of vintage fairs and over-pricing. I have that same boot fair mentality I suppose but you paid fair - no make that really good - prices for that lot so I am encouraged to go to one. Just have to see where as I don't think East Sussex has any vintage fairs at all. Might have to travel a bit.
Oh it's all lovely lovely Scarlett. I am in love with the Icilma gift set, that packaging is just beautiful, what a most gorgeous find! I am also slightly jealous...x
ReplyDeleteps good to see that Union Jack has come in handy ha-ha x
Wow, there is something extra special about these finds. I'm bowled over by the beautiful make-up packaging. The prices have surprised me - far more reasonable than expected. £10 was a steal for the 1930's vanity case, it's exceptionally lovely.
ReplyDeleteAmazing finds! I've never been to an antiques collectors fair but now I really want to find one!
ReplyDeleteI love the first adorable Jacob's tin but the star of the show has to go to that vanity case! It's immaculate! I would have been crooning over that too! Such a lovely colour! xxx
Faaaaarrr out what amazing finds! The last fair I went to was very slow too and I came away with some bargain-ous treasures - I cannot believe everything you bought was in pristine condition and soooooooo cheap! Isn't the face powder add hilarious?!! xo
ReplyDeletewoo hoo you I wish we had as many car boot sales and all the rest you guys get to go to.I am loving that 1st tin the most
ReplyDeleteI'd always thought the same about the prices - must be the word 'antique', although I think these days the word 'vintage' is probably more likely to drive prices up as it's more of a buzz word. Some lovely treasures and very 'you', will have to look out for something similar xx
ReplyDeleteOh lovely! I'm now thinking maybe I should go to a fair to have a nosey. I've got the same mentality though. Charity shops now seem really expensive when I know I can get something similar for pennies at a car boot. Think maybe I've become spoiled.

Wow what smashing finds love the tin and then double wow with the makeup and the vanity box blimy how lucky were you ;-)) Enjoy those, dee x
ReplyDeleteGreat buys! Like you, I've so far avoided anything described as "antique fair"! - but I think I'll try one out!
ReplyDeleteLiz
Great finds amor!
ReplyDeleteI never been to antique collectors fair either.
I will have to go check them out now.
the vintage pink jars are fabulous and the viange make up how cool is that and brand new. I seen those on Ebay go for lots.
Great buys - I've been to a few vintage fairs and they do vary greatly, but you obviously went to a good one!

Gorgeous finds and grt prices!
ReplyDeletei must say i can see the difference in prices between bootsales treasures that you bought and these lovelies from vintage fair! but oh dear, im in love with that jacob's tin! so adorable! and those lid bottles with side compartments are absolutely gorgeous, i do love this about you and learn from you that we have to check what's inside even the box isn't really attractive, what treasures you found inside! unused and still pretty stationery and gorgeous face powder and face cream! i think i'll hurt my purse too if i had to buy in vintage fair and if the price of the stall holder said that she put it £30 on her previous sale! xx Susan
ReplyDeleteLove the makeup case! I sometimes check out antique sales as there are some good deals to be found.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretties, I love the vintage make-up kit and that ad, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI tend to avoid those fairs, too. The prices seem very good though. x
You really had a big day on this outing. All your vintage goodies are great.
ReplyDeleteWOW! what amazing finds, glad it'snot just me who has a thing for stationary.

ReplyDeleteAah good stuff, loving all the vintageness! :)
ReplyDeletethe case is amazing! totally tip top! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I don't go to many fairs because I am afraid things will be priced to high. I will occasionally go at the end of the last day as people give good deals. I love old bottles, good find
ReplyDeleteCarol
I agree with you, I never let myself go to many fairs or Antique shows because I am afraid things will be priced to high and I'll be out of control!
ReplyDeleteYou found some great finds here...love the tin with the girl on the front!
Terry
Wow you did amazingly well Scarlett. Vintage goodness makes my heart sing! Lovely blog you have here x
ReplyDeleteFabulous finds, in such wonderful condition! Do you think the girl on the tin is supposed to be Shirley Temple?
ReplyDeleteWhat beauties you have found! The vintage vanity case is just beautiful beyond words. I am very pleased to see the prices you paid are really reasonable at the Vintage fair, we have a few coming up near us, so might check them out now. Bx

ReplyDeleteHoly cow, such awesome scores! The tin and the cosmetics really rock my boat! Well, good to see that your eyes were opened! It certainly is a whole new world for you now!!!! Woohoo!xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your finds! (as always!) I think you can find treasure pretty much anywhere...problem is I torture myself with it....I feel I have to stop at every single yard sale etc. because I might be missing the "find" of a lifetime! And it has happened once with an antique Louis Vuitton trunk for $50 *winks* Vanna
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous goodies, I never find such fabulous beauty treasures,
