Who lives in a house like this...

I went to visit my aunt last week and took my little man.  My aunt always has some treat for him when we visit.  This occasion the treat was extra special and secretly was more of a treat for me!

It turned out that her elderly neighbour had given her some toys from the loft as all their grandchildren were grown up and she wanted to give these bits to someone who could use them.  All the toys were girly so my aunt gave them to my niece but my aunt thought Finley would like this one:

Oh yes only a 1969 Fisher price 'Play Family House'!  Now being born in 1980 but having very thrifty parents I had a secondhand one of these when I was little and I loved it!

So lets go through the keyhole...

Working door bell as standard and large windows to let in plenty of light.

Vintage interior design.

The master bedroom having plenty room for a double and single bed, vintage fluff on the double bed a nice added touch.

Fantastic original features in the lounge include the open fire place. No child safe fireguards for baby in 1969 family place house.

And plenty room out the back for a landscape garden or even an extension.

Isn't it a beaut!  The previous occupiers have decided to vacate the property as they are fed up of being chewed by my son ;o)

So hands up who else had one of these?

  2. I didn't have one, but wanted one BADLY. I still love a play house. I had that Acorn Tree thing which opened up, but it wasn't a patch on this.
On the plus side, I had an enviable collection of Sindy and Barbie paraphernalia due to my mum's charity/car boot obsession.

  4. Meeee! :-) My grandparents found me one at a car boot sale for a couple of pounds and I played with it for years until selling it to another little girl at a car boot sale when I was 13/14 ish and had a clear out.

Yours looks to be in lovely condition :-)

  5. My sister had one of those - its not fluff - but were there was foam stuck to the beds ;)

I still have my school house complete with people and magnetic letters - think I've blogged about it before.

You need to look out for Dad, a car for the garage and I'm sure there was a sofa & 2 arm chairs in the front room too.

  7. Memory overload! I was a child of the 70's, so I had several of these Fisher Price toys - a plane, a bus, a school. Being a control freak even then, I would get really annoyed when friends or siblings would mix up the people. Example - 'A dog can't drive a bus! Aaaagghh!'

A secret: I always coveted the multi-storey garage with a crank operated lift. But it was a bit expensive. We eventually got it one Christmas, when my sister was 10 and I was 13. It was probably a bit young for a little punk rocker, but I LOVED it!

  8. I've never seen one of these before - its fantastic. I love the little stairs you can bob the people up and down - hope your little sweetheart doesn't chew this up too much. I can see it becoming a family heirloom! xxx

  10. I was also a thrifty mummy of children born in the late 70s and I’m proud to say that many of their toys were second-hand, including lots of Fisher Price stuff. My daughter did however have a Lundby dolls house new. many of their Playmobil bits came from the Thrift shop and now......my 3 year-old twin grandchildren play with them!

  11. I've never seen one of these and I bet little Finlay loves it.
We had wooden toys as children as my parents (and many others of that time) considered plastic to be inferior. My doll's house was Mum's 1940's Tri-Ang beauty complete with battery powered lighting, a Welsh dresser and glass goblets.
It probably explains my love of kitsch and cheapo nonsense now! x

Finleyti is going to have loads of fun amor.
I would be a thrifty Mama too.

  16. Ah, so that's what that is. There's one of those in the hospital play room. Only it looks more like a squat.

Have fun playing with your new toy.

  17. My hand is held high in the air :) I had one of these but it had a brown roof and slightly different decor to the front of the house but the interior is exactly the same. I think we still have mine knocking about somewhere ready for when I have kids of my own. It may be a little while yet though ha ha xxx

  20. How cute is this! I remember the little people from somewhere. I had sons' during this time and all I stumbled over were tunker trucks, cowboys-n-indians figures! This is all girl! Thanks for sharing. Hugs!

  23. Lucky Finley, or should I say lucky Scarlett? I have one, early 70's though and it wasn't mine...I bought it from a garage sale (I had one of those boring old fashioned wooden ones)my Fisher Price has furniture but no little people and it has a blue roof.

  25. OMG just had a total flashback, pretty sure I had one of these! But with Playmobil people, for some strange reason! Excellent gift :)

  26. Didnt have one of these, but there's something vaguely famillar about it....maybe a long forgotten childhood memory of playing with someone else's?

I did have various other dolls houses over the years....a Sindy three story mansion....some weird plastic thing that space underneath everywhere as the toy people had magnets on the bottom of them so you needed room to move them with a magnet on the end of a plastic stick...some weird scandavian wooden house thing that I think was supposed to be educational...I think my toys moved house about as often as I did as a child!

  27. AWWW! It is so adorable! I didn't have this one, but my grandmother had a small playhouse similar to this for us to play with when we went to visit her. It was so adorable and retro, hehe :) And so this post brought back so many memories!

We don't have the baby bits but do have the car & lounge chairs, I remember picking the green foam off all the beds when I was little too!
