Charity Shopping

It's my work free day so it is only right I used it to trawl the charity shops.  I made sure my little boy was suitable fed and watered to avoid tantrums mid clothes rail. The stock looked a little "weathered" and the calls from the back room to "make sure you are chucking a lot out" obviously means they had finally realised that no one wants that 4 year old bottle of bubble bath or indeed the ugly figurine of a tramp sitting on a park bench.

Dispite routing through a lot of crap oddments I did come home with a couple of bits. So here they are:

Retro Juice jug and 6 glass

In fabulous condition and at a lovely price of £3 the set.

Vintage tea towels (quite a rare find in my local charity shop)

 Marked up at 50p each.

I couldn't come home without a little bit of china:

'Sunbuff' Grays Pottery hand painted jug.  From a quick internet search probably dates from the 30s/40s. The price..£1. I also spied the matching sandwich plate on the shelf below:

The plate was also £1. I love this design so am hoping who ever donated these might donate a few more bits (wishful thinking).

The last buy of the day was for the little man's nursery:

Three little lighthouses - ideal to fit on those boat shelves I revamped.  I have seen these at my local boot sale week in and week out on the same stall marked up at £4 each - no chance. I picked these up for £1 the three.  Maybe the stallholder gave up and donated them instead :o)

Overheard in a charity shop

Voice from the stock room: "Mary you are going to have to pop to Asda for some more air freshener, you know that guy comes in on a Friday afternoon".

(I think most of us at sometime have had the misfortune of a nasal encounter of that guy in the charity shop).

Have a fabulous weekend all. I've seen the weather forecast for my area on Sunday and looks to be a washout...better find an indoor car boot sale!  I will also have a catch up on all your lovely blogs, getting into the work/nursery/home life routine is still a bit in the air so still trying to squeeze in some quality laptop time.

Big Love

  1. Oh THAT guy! There's one everywhere - there seems to be no escape!! :-) Air freshener sounds like a reasonable weapon in the combat against the odour though!

How is it that there is china wherever you go?! There has been nothing in our half dozen charity shops for weeks and oddly it was the same story when I managed to squeeze in a little charity shopping on Saturday morning in Bewdley in Worcestershire (we were away at a wedding weekend) and again the same thing in Derby on Wednesday :-( It seems to be running away from me to you! Lol :-)

Those glasses and the retro jug are just stunning hun - what a find for £3!

  4. Haha there's a VERY smelly mother and daughter in my local charity shop sometimes, it's seriously hold-your-breath stinky so I sympathise! Excellent bargains, loving the glasses set :)

  9. Lovely finds, the jug and glass set wouldn't look out of place in any era, so cute. I can almost smell 'that guy' if I concentrate enough. Urine, stale greasy food, B.O and fags. Must be such a treat to open a donated bag of unwashed clothes from that guy!
Seems you're doing well with the work/life balance, still getting some bargain hunting time and haven't lost your sense of humour. Keep it up!
Have a great weekend, hope weather forecast is wrong. x

  17. That smelly man gets around quite a lot! Actually in the 99p shop a few weeks ago there were a young couple in the 20s who positively reeked - they left a miasma of foulness in their wake of complete uncleanliness. I don't know about soap, but I think they needed a scrub down with Cillit Bang!

P.S. Love the 'Sunbuff' china and the glassware.

  20. Love the tea towels, especially the cow and milkmaid one. Smelly guys in charity shops - oh yes, indeedy. I encountered one that whiffed so badly once, I was checking out the soles of my shoes for what I had trodden in before I realised it was coming from him. Should've guessed though as I recognised him - he lived in a house that looked more like a shack and had a tree growing out of the roof!!

  25. Yesterday I was in a CS with my boys and my youngest wrinkled up his nose and whispered VERY LOUDLY that it smelt very stinky in there. :)

It always does pong in that particular shop but it was worse yesterday due to a smelly old duck with socks and sandals wandering round muttering like a looney.

Actually I washed a t-shirt today that I bought in that CS and it still smells decidedly rank. Will give it another try and if the smell stays it will become a floor rag or something.

Liking your finds very much - the jug and glasses are FAB!

  32. Big love to you too Scarlett, gorgeous ttowels and I love that jug/glasses. The best prices are always in the smelliest op-shops (here anyway)....I just take a big breath before I go in! There are far too many sterile op-shops (pretending to be department stores) for my liking theses days. Enjoy your weekend x

  35. Breathe through your mouth when the 'man' comes in - it does help. It's a shame that people don't seem to realise how bad their smell is.
Your jug and glasses find is my favourite. Such a pretty design.
