Boot Sale Part 2 :o)

As promised my lovelies I'm posting the second half of my mammoth boot sale haul.  Thanks for all your lovely comments on the last post and to answer the question where I put it all, well we have a lot of in built storage in the house :o) I'm also replacing all the modern boring kitchen stuff with my vintage finds as I love that mismatched look.  I'm trying to clear as I go along via La Bay which funds my shopping habits lol.

So lets take a look at the new additions.  Well it seems that some one is sending me a sign, first the froggy murder print, then the wind in the willows hamper and now:

Yup old school Wind in the Willows book.  Love it, has a slight bit of water damage to the top of the dust cover but the book and illustrations are perfect. Looking forward to reading this to my son.  Plus it was only 50p :o)

On the subject of old books I bought this lot:

Basically bought the books because they look "pretty" in a true shabby chic way. I'm not going to pretend I have literary prowess - just like the covers *wink*  I'm also a sentimental fool and the 'little men book' has this inside:

A February birthday girl in 1950. I also got this fabulous kids book by Mr Jungle book (and Nobel Prize winner) himself:

This little gem was published in 1948.  Amazing its still in such great condition.  All these books cost me 20p each *grin*.

The next item I bought caused a massive argument between the stall holders. I saw this vintage trinket jar (with mirrored lid) and perfume bottles (complete with stoppers -eeeee!):

I went in for the grab before anyone else spied them and asked the young guy on the stall how much for the set, he said £2. Well I tried to keep cool but inside I was squealing.  His mother then called him to the front on the van and they started having a heated discussion while pointing at the set. I had my £2 coin in my hot little hand just wanting to pay and run but was looking like I wasn't getting these for £2.  The guy then came back and said "my mother wants a lot more for them but as I've said £2 you can have them for that". Well the coin was in his hand like lightening and I was busy stuffing these into one of the pillow cases (aka swag bag) I bought.  The mother then came strutting over and I was like 'run run run' so I grabbed my bags and as I was darting off I heard the young guy say "well that will teach you for selling my stuff too cheap, now we're even"  eek! I wouldn't want to be in their house that evening sheesh!

But I don't feel so guilty now every time I look at them - hehehe (yup my ruthless side has shown its face) at at least meany momma can be safe in the knowledge they've gone to a good home.

I also got 5 jars which are now storing my buttons, I've only photographed 3:

Witnessed At A Boot Sale

I see so many crazy and amusing things at the booty that it would be rude not to share.

The boot sale I go to has its regulars (me being one of them) but the most noticed of us is a lady who rides a mobility scooter complete with African Grey Parrot. I kid you not the parrot hangs onto her keys and takes the whole boot sale in his stride.  I was behind her on a tricky narrow bit full of people and the parrot said "A bit of a Squeeze" and she didn't pat an eyelid just replied "yes it is" - me and the lady beside me were open mouthed in amazement - clever little bird!  I wonder if  knows how to haggle - who's going to say no to a parrot wanting a bit of chintz for a knock down price.

The second happening which amused me greatly was an eastern European lady looking at a box of breast pads:
Lady- "have they been opened?"
Stall holder - "no they are brand new"
Lady -  "oh I'll leave them then"

The last thing that made me chuckle was a grown man sniffing a handbag - getting a proper eyes closed lung full of sweaty plastic. I think he was using the guise that he was checking for leather but I think that bag just made his day...

Well done to those that got to the end of this post lol.  I've also seen today that I've reached that magic 100 followers, thank you all and I am in awe that you all read my blog!  I'm off to sort out a giveaway so watch this space as will announce it in a few days.

The law of 'The Haggle'.

Saturday and the sun is out so thought I'd check out the new Saturday morning boot sale near where I live as am not going to be booting tomorrow :o(.  Well when I got there I thought I'd mistakenly walked onto the set of the Antiques Roadshow - every stall was full of collectables and all set out like an antiques fair, I did check the sign and it was definitely meant to be a carboot sale!  Along with the dealers came antique style pricing so I wasn't optimistic on finding a bargain even though there were so lovely things.

The turn out wasn't great and by the second to last stall I still hadn't bought anything, but the last two stalls came in lucky for me.  I found this little set of pink polka dot:

As you all know I love my jugs (sorry couldnt resist!) so to get two in a lot was magic!

The stall holder wanted £5 for the lot, now being a child of a boot sale addict (thanks Dad) I was told to not take the first price and always have a go at the haggle. I don't always follow this rule if for example the first price is ridiculously low anyway and I just want to get the item in my bag lol. On this instance however I thought there was room for the haggle, not wanting to be tight I offered £4 which I thought was reasonable as dear old dad would have gone it at least 50% haha.  Well the man on the stall had to confer with his wife regarding this small £1 discount - she was tight lipped and said no - not even coming in with a counter offer, so being a stubborn Scorpio I decided to leave it (a trick learned in my time in Thailand).  I walked to the next stall and started looking at the goods where by the guy rushed over and said yes they would take £4  :o) The Thailand trick remains infallible *wink*. Well I popped the items pretty quick into my bag before she had time to change her mind.  When I got home I looked at the bottom of the large jug:

£19.99 just for the jug! No wonder she thought she could get more lol.

The final stall was run by a fabulous Irish man who informed me that all his goods 'had been stolen from Windsor Castle the night before' so I had better snap them up before the old bill came and got him, haha. He had a pile of bedding which I thought I'd had a rummage through,  I found:

Yellow rose valance sheet for double bed.

Floral shabby chic style double duvet cover (with valance trim).

Vintage floral pillow case (sorry for all the creases - taken all these straight out of bag to photo before washing).

Vintage hand embroidered cushion cover.

One vintage lace glove (couldn't find the other one lol)

A pair of huge floral lined curtains which are beautiful (shame the pictures do not do these justice).

And the best of the lot:

A huge vintage Italian peacock scarf.  I couldn't believe it when I found this at the bottom of the fabric pile!

All these were from the Irishman's stall and guess how much I paid for the lot.... £5!!  I would have easily have paid more than that for the scarf or curtains alone but for the whole bundle that was unbelievable.  As you can guess this wasn't the time for a haggle haha.

So my weekend is complete on the bargain front and I don't feel so bad missing out on the boot sale tomorrow :o)

Ok so I'm a day late with the Sunday round-up, yesterday was just a busy busy day and then I found out it was free listing weekend on eBay - that wiped out my evening in the attempt to off load some clutter and hoping that the lovely buyers on eBay will love my quirky stuff as much as me....fingers crossed the eBay gods will be smiling on me :o)

We had sunshine yesterday morning so I was expecting the Boot sale to be chock-a-block and I wasn't disappointed, it was heaving.  Literally it was each bargain hunter for themselves and I lost count of the number of toe stamps I endured and the elbows were extra sharp.

I didn't come away with as much as my usual outings but what I got I'm very pleased with. First off the bat was this jar:

Its made by Ravenhead and actually dates from the 1950s (thank goodness for Internet searches).  I'm not sure if I am going to leave it as it is of use some of my easy peasy transfer magic on it....either way it only cost me 50p!

I also found this cut glass trinket dish on the same stall:

Looks to be the same age as the jar and is surprisingly really heavy so I knew it was a keeper, also love the curved handle very Vivienne Westwood style. The lad on the stall gave me this for 50p too.

As you know I'm a fabric-oholic and I cant walk past a pile of fabric without having a look, curtains seem to be my latest finds, I picked up 3 pairs yesterday at the sale:

They are all long curtains too so loads of fabric to be put to good use. The top and middle pair cost £2, the blue damask print curtains cost £1 - bargain!

I also picked up this Crabtree and Evelyn 2004 collectors mug made by Masons Ironstone:

Ive seen some of these sell very well on ebay too so it was bought shamelessly as it was only 20p. I've not entered it into my 20p challenge as I don't think I can pass off 2004 as vintage lol. But did I find a vintage 20p item? All will be revealed on Saturday.

On thing I have noticed at the Car boot Sale recently is the surge of stalls selling cupcakes - yesterday on the upper level alone there were 4 separate stall selling cupcakes and each competing with each other (lots of scribbling out of prices on their signs).  I didn't see one person buying a cupcake or indeed eating one at any stage of the boot sale crawl. They did look lovely and a lot of time had obviously gone into preparing them (and I do love cupcakes) but I'd be damned if I was going to pay £10 for a pitch to sit there for 4 hours staring at my pile of cupcakes that no one is buying :o)

Car Boot Sale Booty!

Its Sunday and the heavens have opened - it has literally rained non stop today but even a bit of the wet stuff cant put me off the Sunday boot sale trip. I'm lucky that the boot sale I go to (when its not boot sale season) is in an undercover car park. However there is a top level which is outside and the poor sods that didn't get there early enough were having to sell their wears in the pouring rain on top of a cozy and dry car park! They must have been cursing the people who were selling like hot cakes in the lower level while all their own good were soaking wet - no one really is going to want to rummage through that cardboard box of sopping wet clothes while getting drenched themselves.

But it seems rain = fabulous finds for me! I have bought lots of lovely items today that I am pleased as punch to have found but I haven't had much time today to photograph them all so I've got enough to keep me going for a couple of blog entries yet!

The first find was a Royal Albert bone china telephone, the design is country roses and I just loved it as soon as I saw it on the stall.

It needs a good clean up but I've plugged it into the phone socket this evening and it works - hooray!  So chuffed at finding this and with a bit of haggling I picked it up for £4.

The next find today was this adorable children's book. I'm not sure of the age, no year date inside the book but I would have thought it was 1950s:

Its going to look lovely in my little boys nursery and cost me £1. Another bargain today was this cruet duo, as you know I'm a sucker for floral and these were so pretty that I snapped them up as soon as I zoomed in on them on the stall:

Would you believe that I paid £1.50 for the pair! Its the little things that make me smile :o)
